Upper 90 Sports Pub, located at 322 W. State St., announced that it will close on Sunday, Aug. 27. The Old World Third Street-neighboring bar made the announcement in a Facebook post, where co-owners Jake and Seth Dehne thanked its patrons and staff for their support over the past seven years while hinting at "an exciting opportunity we just could not pass up" coming soon to the space.
"We will be announcing our new partnership at the same address next week and let me tell you it will be a great addition to Old World 3rd Street," the post adds.
As a send-off, Upper 90 will serve up $2 drink specials all next weekend, Aug. 25-27, and still host special events, including ladies night on Thursday and, while pending, the much anticipated Mayweather-McGregor boxing match on Saturday. In addition, on Friday night, Upper 90 will cook up its final batches of AUCE wings (with extra ordered for the occasion). Then Sunday will serve as last call for the entire bar, with $3 drinks and $5 food items until they're all gone.
Upper 90 originally opened in 2011, taking over the historic 1889 Schlitz Brewery-built tavern space that formerly housed bars like the Daily Planet, the Tamarack, Lukas' on State, Stub's Pub and the Calderone Pub. Located between the Old World Third Street drag and the BMO Harris Bradley Center, the bar built its reputation as "Milwaukee's first gastro sports pub," featuring multiple screens for watching the big games and a menu including oddball eats like alligator bites and "Milwaukee's biggest pretzel."
Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for news on what's next for the space.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
