There’s a new place to purchase cheese, charcuterie, wine and specialty foods in Wauwatosa Village. The Village Cheese Shop, located in the former firehouse at 1430 Underwood Ave., quietly opened in mid-June. And you can visit this week, beginning Wednesday, July 5.
The European inspired shop features a wide variety of artisanal and farmstead cheeses from Wisconsin, as well as across the U.S. and Europe which are cut to order by approachable, knowledgeable staff.
The shop also features a variety of accompaniments, including charcuterie, distinctive jams, crackers, nuts and cheese accessories along with a curated wine selection represents small quality producers from around the world.
For cheese lovers who would like to linger with a glass of wine, a cheese bar within the shop offers a small menu of cheese and charcuterie boards, sandwiches and salads.
Moving forward, the shop will also offer its own freshly stretched mozzarella, cheese classes, gift boxes and catering trays.
Village Cheese Shop owner Sabina Magyar is a native Milwaukeean and accomplished traveler whose appreciation for food and wine has been honed through a variety of experiences in Europe and beyond. Her professional experience has included work as beverage and cheese manager at Glorioso's Italian Market, where she assisted in expanding the market's selection of both cheeses and wine.
Most recently, she has worked with companies in the wine industry, including Thief Wine and Rootstock Wine Co. Magyar is also an American American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional and certified by the Wine & Spirit Educational Trust.
The Village Cheese Shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shop will observe extended hours during the summer farmer’s market season and will be open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
