Last summer, we featured Cody Berg of The Sharpening Company, a local entrepreneur offering convenient professional sharpening service for kitchen knives, scissors and garden tools.
Berg’s model is unique in that he offers onsite sharpening (while you wait) at several convenient local locations. This summer, he’ll be popping up at a number of spots, including farmers markets in South Milwaukee and Greendale.
The service is efficient and convenient. You can grab a coffee, do some shopping or even run an errand while your items are sharpened! All knives, scissors and garden tools are welcome.
Read more about The Sharpening Company here. Then check out the days, times and locations where Berg will be offering his services below. Sharpening will be available at these locations every week, weather permitting.

5 reasons to go pro
Here are five reasons to consider professional knife sharpening over at-home options:
- Knives last longer: Professional sharpeners use tools that remove the least amount of metal from your knives, which helps to increase their longevity.
- You'll get enduring results: A professionally sharpened knife should stay sharper longer. For a home cook, that can mean at least six months, even with regular use.
- It's affordable: The cost to sharpen a knife is generally $10 or less. Even at $20 a year, that's a solid investment.
- It's safer and more effective: Sharp knives are much safer to use than their dull counterparts and they are more effective in the kitchen. (If you’ve ever tried to cut a tomato with a dull knife or mow your lawn with a dull mower blade, you already know this.)
- Sharpness is guaranteed: There’s no guesswork about whether or not your knife is as sharp as it can be; The Sharpening Company uses their experience and tried and true tests to ensure your items come back in optimal condition.
Bonus: By using a local knife sharpening service you’re supporting a local business that reinvests in the community and the local economy.
