The holidays are supposed to be a time for celebration. But sometimes life has other plans.
Just before the holidays, Micah Buck and Katherine Lochmann, co-owners of Voyager in Bay View, returned home from a trip to New York. They were at LaGuardia Airport when they got a phone call from Katherine’s mother, informing them that their house had been destroyed by a fire.
The fire claimed everything the couple owned, and their beloved pup, Tulah.
"Fortunately, they were able to spend time with family and friends during the holidays. And their family has been really supportive in giving them a place to stay," notes Voyager co-owner Jordan Burich.
"But, they’re still reeling from dealing with all the aspects of this, including settling things with insurance. So, we really want to show them some support and love."
In an effort to assist the Bucks in recovering from the tragic fire, Burich and countless neighborhood businesses have come together to host an evening of support for Buck and Lochmann.
On Sunday, Jan. 27, from 5 to 10 p.m., the public is invited to participate in "The Great Buckster Fire Giveaway," a night of revelry and support at Voyager wine & cocktail bar, 422 E. Lincoln Ave.
The first 20 people to walk through the door will receive a Voyager canvas tote bag. Attendees will also have an opportunity to win prizes from Healium Hot Yoga, Rushmor Records, L’eft Bank Wine, Breakthru Beverage, Purple Feet Wines, The Vanguard, Love-Based Beauty and more.
There will also be food available for purchase from "Kinda Good," a sandwich pop-up shop by Chef Paul Zerkel of Goodkind.
