Welcome to a weekly segment called "Social Circle." It's OnMilwaukee.com's first article that's truly a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors.
Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in the Thursday column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.
For most adults, if they dress up for Halloween, they're going to pick a costume that's original, ironic and / or rooted in pop culture. Few adults dress up like ghosts or witches, unless these classic costume choices have some sort of a twist.
And many adults choose not to dress up at all.
Halloween is an important holiday at OnMilwaukee.com, and it has been since the beginning. (Dressing up is mandatory for OnMilwaukee.com employees and we have an annual lunch and costume contest). Hence, OnMilwaukee.com salutes all of the grown-ups who still take the time and effort to put together a costume.
Many members of the OnMilwaukee.com Social Circle have the Halloween spirit and they weighed in with their costume plans. Add yours via the Talkback feature.
Jon Adler: "Frank from '30 Rock,' my wife is going as Liz Lemon."
Emily Ann: "A Playboy bunny!"
Lisa Bergman: "Pregnant nun."
Russ Fascia: "Evil clown gynecologist."
Bill Halmo: "I'll just be wearing my pig nose."
Betsy Holmes: "Mine's a secret but had an awesome easy costume idea this morning ... just takes a dress and some paint."
Thea Kovac: "Theapatra."
Brian Kramp: "A singing, dancing paperboy. Think Christian Bale in Newsies. Know anyone with red suspenders?"
Jessica Larson: "A drunk woman with loose morals."
Katie Maedke-Hall: "Carrie. And of course Tommy Ross will be my date."
Zee Monstah: "An X-mas gift."
Ted Perry: "It's funny, I don't really do Halloween and haven't since I was 8. I've always felt a little self-conscious about dressing up so I don't. I'm kind of jealous of people who get into it – they seem to love it. I think my aversion to Halloween goes back to getting candy-jacked when I was 6."
Liz Dupree-Schafer: "Tippi Hedren in 'The Birds.' I've actually done this before, so it's easy to do, since I've got the stuff already and I can concentrate on my kids' costumes."
Laura Tully: "My kid's chaperone."
Vince Vitrano: "No costume for me. My creative energy is now spent on the three kids... including the brick. I have donned a cool, court jester style hat for trick or treat in the past, and could perhaps dig that out, but otherwise I'm just going as a dad."
