After four years broadcasting its shows through its website, Riverwest Radio will officially hit FM dials on 104.1 FM with the call letters WXRW-LP beginning Friday, Jan. 1.
The non-profit station, founded at Riverwest Film & Video by station manager Xav Leplae in 2011 in order to provide a place for community conversation, was granted a low power FM (LPFM) radio license by the FCC in October of 2014. The station's LPFM extends the reach of the station and its 50-program roster from solely Internet broadcasting to an FM radio signal that goes to about a five-mile radius.
"Our primary directive remains with neighborhood generated, community-oriented content," said Leplae in a press release. "Riverwest Radio helps one appreciate how interesting, thoughtful and talented everyday people can be. After sampling a few of our programs, I believe listeners will make personal connections and discover a new kind of radio experience."
The station's official 104.1 FM launch celebration will take place at its 824 E. Center St. location on Friday, Jan. 1 from noon until 3 p.m. The celebration is free and open to the public.
In addition to its new FM station, Riverwest Radio will continue to broadcast online at its official website.
