Mike Eitel of Caravan Hospitality Group opened Nomad World Pub, 1401 E. Brady St., in 1995. Over the years, the corner-pub-meets-soccer bar has underwent myriad changes, but the heart of it has stayed the same: a community-oriented tavern able to accommodate everything from a hardy party (both indoors and out!) to a casual hang.
Now, Eitel plans to sell Nomad to Milwaukee hospitality stalwarts Drew Deuster and JJ Kovacovich of Wild Planet Hospitality. Eitel will remain an operating partner. Wild Planet also owns Red Rock Saloon, 1225 N. Water St. and McGillycuddy’s Bar and Grill, 1135 N. Water St.
Caravan will continue to have sole ownership of SportClub, 750 N. Jefferson Ave.; Barrel Burrito Co., 782 N. Jefferson St. and Experts Only, 782 N. Jefferson St.
So what does this mean for Nomad World Pub? The new ownership group says they plan to keep the pub’s ethos intact and the large Nomad “campus” will remain the same with patio areas, a covered deck, a parklet and the adjacent Nomad Coffee Bar.
This summer, Nomad will host multiple viewing parties on the “Brady Beach” for two month-long soccer tournaments. They also have festivities planned during the Republican National Convention, Brady Street Festival and the Harley Davidson Anniversary celebrations.
“We are really looking forward to expanding our efforts to the Brady Street neighborhood and working with Mike to be a part of all the exciting festivals and events in the coming years,” Deuster said.
Nomad, which turns 30 years old next year, is known for its large street events, soccer culture and world music vibes.
“Mike and I have talked about doing something together for ages and we are both stoked it’s finally happening," says Kovacovich. “It’s about time!”
