"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee is back for another round, brought to you by Great Northern Distilling: grain to glass spirits, handmade in Wisconsin. The whole month of March, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun articles on bars and clubs – including guides, the latest trends, bar reviews, the results of our Best of Bars readers poll and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
The 64-team NCAA tournament begins on Thursday. And, while there are no Milwaukee-area teams taking part in March Madness this year, there are two representing the state: Wisconsin and Green Bay.
Any bar that has a television will have the Badgers game against Pittsburgh on Friday evening at 5:50 p.m. (TNT). Most will also try to show Green Bay vs. Texas A&M, which starts at 6:20 p.m. on Friday (TBS). And, if you ask nicely, any bar will probably put on the game you want, especially if it's one featuring a local player.
Badgers and Phoenix fans need not worry about finding a place to watch the games with like-minded supporters.
But as provincial as we can sometimes be in Milwaukee, there are actually graduates and fans of other schools here, too. Where are they going to cheer on their team?
OnMilwaukee reached out to as many of the alumni associations of schools competing in the NCAA tournament as possible, especially those with local chapters, to try and find out where they will be congregating. About a dozen replied.
So if you want to experience the games with them – or avoid them all entirely (looking at you, Duke fans) – here's a guide to where some local alumni and fan groups will be watching their teams. (Note: We're leaving out Wisconsin, since almost every place in Milwaukee could be considered a Badgers bar; also, the Green Bay alumni association responded that "there’s not really a single location in Milwaukee for Phoenix fans to gather.")

Know of other establishments that are – officially or unofficially – hosting NCAA tournament watch parties for a particular team? Let us know in the comments!
Born in Milwaukee but a product of Shorewood High School (go ‘Hounds!) and Northwestern University (go ‘Cats!), Jimmy never knew the schoolboy bliss of cheering for a winning football, basketball or baseball team. So he ditched being a fan in order to cover sports professionally - occasionally objectively, always passionately. He's lived in Chicago, New York and Dallas, but now resides again in his beloved Brew City and is an ardent attacker of the notorious Milwaukee Inferiority Complex.
After interning at print publications like Birds and Blooms (official motto: "America's #1 backyard birding and gardening magazine!"), Sports Illustrated (unofficial motto: "Subscribe and save up to 90% off the cover price!") and The Dallas Morning News (a newspaper!), Jimmy worked for web outlets like CBSSports.com, where he was a Packers beat reporter, and FOX Sports Wisconsin, where he managed digital content. He's a proponent and frequent user of em dashes, parenthetical asides, descriptive appositives and, really, anything that makes his sentences longer and more needlessly complex.
Jimmy appreciates references to late '90s Brewers and Bucks players and is the curator of the unofficial John Jaha Hall of Fame. He also enjoys running, biking and soccer, but isn't too annoying about them. He writes about sports - both mainstream and unconventional - and non-sports, including history, music, food, art and even golf (just kidding!), and welcomes reader suggestions for off-the-beaten-path story ideas.
