After kicking off with a viral first day on Thursday with Chappell Roan, Lollapalooza 2024 delivered more unforgettable experiences on Friday and Saturday, transforming Chicago's Grant Park into a vibrant hub of music, art and culture. With an eclectic mix of performers across various genres, the festival's second and third days stood out with stellar performances and memorable moments for every type of music fan.
Friday set the tone with a diverse lineup that did not disappoint. Megan Moroney's soulful performance left a lasting impression for Lolla’s country music fans, while Renee Rapp's charismatic stage presence drew in a massive crowd earlier in the evening. Victoria Monet dazzled with her captivating choreography and smooth vocals, and RAYE's soulful voice and loveable personality had the audience captivated from start to finish.
On Saturday, the energy was palpable as Tate McRae captivated the audience with her dynamic stage presence and A+ dance moves. Killer Mike brought his signature raps – plus a church choir – to the Bacardi stage, delivering a performance that resonated deeply with his fans. Future and Metro Boomin teamed up for a headlining set that was both electrifying and immersive, showcasing their undeniable chemistry as frequent collaborators. Ethel Cain added a unique flavor to the day, enchanting the crowd with her haunting melodies and introspective lyrics.
Let’s dive into our ten favorite photos from Day 2 and 3 of Lollapalooza 2024!
1. No Fiserv, no problem
Although they canceled their Milwaukee tour stop at Fiserv Forum this weekend, Wisconsin fans at least had the opportunity to drive an hour and a half south to check out Future and Young Metro team up for their headlining set at Lolla on Saturday night.
2. Two years later…
What a difference two years has been for singer Tate McRae. Having blessed the stage at Lollapalooza just a couple years ago, McRae performed for a much bigger crowd of fans last night. Don’t be surprised if the "Greedy" singer headlines Lolla the next time she returns.
3. Ethel Cain blows fans away
Florida singer-songwriter Ethel Cain blew her Windy City fans away on Saturday with her early afternoon performance, giving a dose of indie rock to the Chicago crowd.
4. Killer Mike brings the church to Lolla
Rapper Killer Mike – also half of the rap duo Run The Jewels – brought the church to Lollapalooza as he brought a church choir to supplement his raps from his newest album, a nice contrast from some of his RTJ projects.
5. Chicago <3 Renee Rapp
Although she wasn’t the stage’s headliner, Chicago showed up in full force for singer Renee Rapp. Many of the fans in the front row were clearly there for her mid-day performance, and while Chicago showed love for the "Mean Girls" star, she showed it back as she brought out Chicago’s own Chance The Rapper for a surprise performance.
6. Victoria Monet rewards fans
Fans of R&B and rap had a difficult decision as they were forced to choose between R&B singer Victoria Monet and rapper Sexyy Red. However Monet made sure that those in attendance for her set had no regrets, showing off her vocals and dance moves at the main stage.
7. The South to the Midwest
Country singer Megan Moroney, one of the few country acts on Lolla’s lineup, put on a great headlining set on Friday night at the Bacardi stage. As one of the biggest emerging names in the genre, Moroney’s star is rising but her stage presence is already at a music veteran level.
8. A day with RAYE
English singer-songwriter RAYE unapologetically showed off her vocal range by belting out every lyric possible. Whether you fell in love with her voice or her personality, she had the crowd laughing between performances and finding ways to draw the audience in.
9. Milwaukee love
Although Metro Boomin was sporting a Chicago White Sox jersey, Future was showing some love to Milwaukee with a cool Harley Davidson jacket during their headlining set.
10. The power of music
This fan, shown during Ethel Cain’s Saturday performance, is an example of the power of music, showing off how a few instruments and lyrics can invoke emotion like nothing else. This is the reason why tens of thousands of people return to Lollapalooza every day in the Chicago heat, to enjoy sounds from musicians across the globe.
