It didn't take the Brewers long to respond after Ald. Mike McGee Jr. proposed Miller Park's parking lots as an alternative to cruising on city streets.
McGee, who announced his proposal today, has been looking for solutions to the chaotic, noisy traffic jams that have taken place in many neighborhoods and at the Lakefront.
"My plan would give law abiding youth an opportunity to socialize in the Miller Park lots under adult and police supervision," McGee said in a statement. "The gridlocking of city streets must stop, and the plan I've envisioned is well thought out and provides a temporary forum for youth to positively express themselves and to exhibit proper behavior when socializing late at night."
The Brewers, who don't seem overly thrilled with the idea, issued the following statement this afternoon:
"As a member of the Milwaukee community, The Milwaukee Brewers are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable location and environment for citizens to congregate and enjoy productive activities.
To that end, the Milwaukee Brewers require that major events held at Miller Park meet uniform standards regarding safety and community approval. It is our expectation that major events held at Miller Park will be reviewed with the local elected representation, neighboring residents and businesses, as well as provide a plan of operation which addresses safety and noise standards of the ballpark, at what expense, and how these costs will be paid.
Until all of these approvals are secured and standards are met, we feel it is not appropriate to move forward on this proposal to utilize Miller Park for cruising without the approval of the local aldermen."
