Chic Cafe opened recently at 770 N. Jefferson St. in the lower level next to Shah Jee. We stopped by today for a quick glimpse of the new place.

The cafe offers a full range of Stone Creek coffee beverages and a full breakfast menu including omelets, pastries and five varieties of chicken and waffles.

The lunch menu features primarily Southern eats with a Cajun flair like po’ boy sandwiches, gumbo, a Cajun chicken breast sandwich and shrimp and grits. Lighter options like salads and wraps are also available.

The eatery is owned by Craig Willis and Rita Willis. Calvin Averhart, who was the deli manager at the Sendik’s in Grafton, is the head chef.

"We’ve been received really well so far," says Averhart.

Customers walk up to the restaurant, order and then eat in a large atrium just outside the space. The cafe will eventually showcase the art of local artists.

Chic Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The staff invited me back to sample the food so stay tuned for more in an upcoming OnMilwaukee.com article.
