Camp Bar will open in Shorewood, hopefully by Halloween, but most likely in early November, according the general manager John McCarthy.
The building, located at 4044 N. Oakland Ave., formerly housed a veterinarian's office and a driving school, is currently undergoing a major reconstruction.
Camp Bar will be an upscale lodge modeled loosely after owners Paul and Natalia Hackbath's Up North cabin.
"It's going to have a very warm and cozy feel, with soft lighting, a lot of knotty pine from northern Wisconsin," says McCarthy.
Camp Bar will offer mostly locally-brewed beers along with classic Wisconsin cocktails like the brandy old fashioned. Food will be available as well but the details have not been finalized. The bar is already booking reservations for holiday parties.
"We just really love the up north atmosphere and wanted to bring a cozy, more upscale version to a more urban area," says McCarthy.
