Earlier this month, we shared that Spicy Tuna owners Matt Jitphungtham and Chutikul (Jay) Sricharoen planned to open Bangkok Kaizen with partner Edwar Martinez at 11200 W. Burleigh St. in Wauwatosa. [Read more about the concept here.]

Sricharoen shared some even better news with us today.  The restaurant will host its soft opening beginning tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m.

To celebrate the opening,  the first 100 customers to dine-in at Bangkok Kaizen will receive a special thank-you gift. Several promotions will also be available during the restaurant's opening week. In addition, from Jan. 16-31, 2025 if you mention this OnMilwaukee article, you will receive a 10% discount.

Guests who'd like to attend the soft opening are asked to make a reservation by calling the restaurant at (414) 420-1120.

What to expect

During the soft opening, the restaurant will showcase its full menu of artfully presented sushi and Japanese dishes as well as a full menu of traditionally prepared regional and street food style fare from Thailand.

That will include familiar items like pad Thai; pad see ew (wide noodles with egg and broccoli); and kra pao moo krob (crispy pork belly with Thai holy basil, garlic and chiles).

You'll also find panang, massaman and green curries made with housemade chile pastes; and rama noodle (steamed wide noodles served with water spinach leaves and peanut sauce).

But you'll also find items like hoi tod, a popular street food pancake made with mussels cooked in a crispy batter with egg and served with bean sprouts.

There will also be a full complement of sushi and sashimi, including special chef maki like Over the Rainbow: Mosaic roll with cucumber, salmon, tuna, tamago topped with eel sauce, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo (10 pieces).

While dine-in service will be available, guests should be aware that, for the first few days (likely through Jan. 20), online ordering will be unavailable.

Guests are also asked to exercise patience as both front and back-of-house staff acclimate to the new location.

Beginning Thursday, Jan. 16, Bangkok Kaizen will be open Wednesday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and dinner service from 5 to 9 p.m. (closed on Tuesdays). Reservations are highly encouraged and can be made by phone at (414) 420-1120.
