When I visited St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 804 W. Vliet St., a decade ago, things were not good. As the congregation reached its 175th birthday two weeks ago, it seemed like an opportune time for a revisit, and I'm glad I went back as the contrasts were clear.
