I'm never surprised by the generosity of people in the Milwaukee community. During the holidays we see such an outpouring of support for many charities in southeastern Wisconsin.
Mike Wickett, co-host of "Chuck and Wickett" weekday mornings on WSSP-AM 1250, said last week’s toy drop and cash drive set a record with donations of more than $82,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
"This was an amazing year for the SportsRadio 1250 Toy Drive," Wickett said.
"Every year I'm blown away by the generosity of the city of Milwaukee, and all of the SportsRadio 1250 listeners."
Wickett said last week’s drive with Chuck Freimund is the single largest toy drop-off the hospital receives all year. The station event involving all three local sports shows was held at Blain's Farm and Fleet -- a store known for its annual Toyland.
The toys are not only distributed for the Christmas season, but throughout the entire year for other holidays, birthdays and game nights.
"The best part of the toy drive to me? It's hearing the stories of the parents, on the impact from the toy drive," Wickett said. "From the bottom of my heart – and on behalf of the entire team at SportsRadio 1250 WSSP, thank you."
It’s known that many sports fans love statistics. Raising $82,000 … that’s a stat that fans and non-sports fans can both get behind.

The former writer, editor and producer in TV, radio, Web and newspapers, will be talking about what media does in our community and how it shapes who we are and what we do.
