Hi Hat Garage hosts new series of spinners

The Hi Hat Garage, 1709 N. Arlington Pl., hosts Civic, a DJ series featuring "local movers, shakers and over-achievers spinning their favorite records for your drinking pleasure."

Wed., Jan. 15 (Previously scheduled for Wed., Dec. 18), Actionman Magazine DJ Crüe spins away, featuring the talents of DJ JuJu (eclectic), Joe Blow (beats) and Romeo Payne (soulful house/kitchen sink).

Show is from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with lots of drink specials and best of all, no cover.

Rollins to run at the mouth again

On Wed., Jan. 29, Henry Rollins comes to The Rave to combine poetry, stand-up and storytelling with astonishing intricacy in one of the most popular and thought-provoking non-musical tours ever. On Sat. Jan. 18, bring your headshot and resume to The Elk's Club (5555 W. Good Hope Rd.) and you could be cast as an actor, dancer or performer in the new film by Mark Borchardt called "Scare Me."

Limber up for the Poetry Marathon

Woodland Pattern will feature its ninth annual Poetry Marathon, a fundraiser for the not-for-profit bookshop featuring five-minute readings and performances by more than 100 local writers. The event will take place Sat., Jan. 21 and runs from 1 p.m. to midnight (or later!). For $6 ($5 for members), you may come and go as you please, or stay for the entire day. Raise $25 in pledges for Woodland Pattern and get in for free!

All proceeds go toward programming so they can continue to grow as a cultural hub and bring the best in music, film and literature to our community.

Fresh chapter for book club

The Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is sponsoring a new book club at the Mayfair Mall Barnes and Noble on Wed., Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. The YSC is the only international non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women and breast cancer. It is not a support group, rather embraces the motto: "Action, Advocacy and Awareness." Show up to find out more about this unique club, open to everyone.

Make a SPLASH! At the Kohler Arts Center

The 14th Annual Benefit Gala is scheduled for Sat., Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.

SPLASH! takes attendees (ages 21-101) from the briny deep to sun-kissed tropical beaches, from those omnipresent bottles of the stuff to the extraordinary characters associated with water such as Noah and Moses, Richard Nixon and Madison the Mermaid.

The evening event is guaranteed to be a swimmingly good time with drinks by the pool, a feast to make mouths water by The American Club's Executive Chef Rhys Lewis, dancing to the Eddie Butts Band and live and silent auctions with trips to the seven seas, events about town, works of art and much more. Dress is black tie optional (flippers preferred), but everyone is encouraged to don his/her most stylish life jacket, saltwater taffy tiara or to simply come coifed in seaweed.
