Plant with it: Butterfly garden
My kids and I did this last summer, and I plan to order another one this month. At first, I was annoyed the larvae did not come with the kit – it has to be ordered for $5 after the "garden" is received. (There's a voucher in the box.) However, the experience was so successful that I was not disappointed for long. Watching the transformation is fascinating, educational and even a little gross – turns out emerging from a chrysalis is bloody work. Perhaps the most valuable part of the process comes at the end, when we released our painted lady butterflies in our yard, said goodbye and watched them flutter away. – Molly Snyder
Enjoy It: A perfect day to sail
I recently rejoined the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center and now that I'm re-certified for light air (under 10 knots), all I want is a sunny, warm day with 9-10 knot winds. I'd cruise by the lighthouse and check out the art museum from 'behind'. The best sight, though, is the sun setting behind the city as I bring the boat back to the dock. It's a tremendous view you don't see often and I can never get enough of it. This afternoon's forecast is just about perfect... – Nick Barth
Smoke with it: Camerons Stovetop Smoker
Summer is almost here! And so is my lust for deliciously smoked foods. But, smoking on a charcoal grill can be tedious. And purchasing a traditional smoker is expensive. So, I've actually been eyeing up this small-scale smoker that you can use over any heat source – on the stove top, in the oven, and even on the grill. Reviews look great – attesting to the fact that this tool is compact, efficient, and can do just about everything that a more expensive smoker can do, including smoking vegetables like tomatoes and corn (which, if you've never done, you absolutely need to try). – Lori Fredrich
Watch it: "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water"
There was phase earlier this year where "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," released on DVD this week, was pretty confidently in the best movies of 2015. Obviously, things have changed since the likes of "Mortdecai" and "The Boy Next Door" ruled the cineplex. "The SpongeBob Movie" may no longer be a Top 10 standout, but it is still a lot of ridiculous and sugar-rush fueled fun. A movie in which a British intergalactic dolphin sits in space, overlooking Saturn and Jupiter, and shooting lasers out of his blowhole simply has to be recommended – and that’s just the tip of the movie’s crazed, mostly hilarious kids comedy. If your family is looking for an animated fix to tide them over until Pixar’s "Inside Out" in two weeks, this dive down to a pineapple under the sea will fit the bill. – Matt Mueller
Drink it: Surly Brewing Overrated West Coast IPA
Famed Minneapolis-based craft beermakers, Surly Brewing, have finally landed in Milwaukee and in the next week it'll over a keg-full of events to launch beers like this super-hoppy, but bold and balanced IPA, which is surely anything but overrated. It packs a wallop at more than 7% alcohol, so go slow there, mate. Try this and some of their other goodies Saturday at the World of Beer Festival, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Schwabenhof in Menomonee Falls or at events on Monday all around town: Milwaukee Ale House (2 p.m.),Goodkind (5 p.m.) and Story Hill BKC (6 p.m.).surlybrewing.com – Bobby Tanzilo
Wear them: Fred Perry Men's Spencer Canvas Sneaker
I need a new pair of casual kicks. Not sporty or too trendy. I like the look of this Fred Perry pair, but not a big fan of the price. But, I do have a birthday coming up. Hint. Hint. – Jeff Sherman
