Beer garden season is fast approaching!

Sprecher Brewery and Milwaukee County Parks have announced the dates and locations for the 2022 Traveling Beer Gardens.

The usual pair of tours – with the special Sprecher vintage fire engines – will visit 10 area parks from May 11 through Labor Day weekend.

The traveling beer gardens partnership has raised almost a quarter-million dollars for park improvements since 2015.

The tour dates and sites were announced this morning at Sprecher Brewery by Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director Guy Smith and Sprecher Brewery CEO Sharad Chadha.

Roll Out The Barrel Tour:

  • Juneau Park,  May 11-30
  • Cooper Park, June 1-19
  • Grant Park Shelter #5, June 22-July 10
  • Lake Park, July 13-31
  • Greenfield Park 3A, Aug. 3-21

Pass Me A Pint Tour:

  • Froemming Park, May 25-June 12
  • Juneau Park, June 15-July 4
  • McCarty Park, July 6-24
  • Doctors Park, July 27-Aug. 14
  • Juneau Park, Aug. 17-Sept. 5

There will a firkin tapping with free beer at the first kickoff at each location, May 11, June 1, June 22, July 13, Aug 3, May 25, June 15, July 6, July 27 and Aug 17.

The traveling beer gardens have generated $3.8 in revenue and donations of $224,000 from Sprecher for improvements to the cash-strapped parks system.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.

He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.

With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.

He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.

In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.

He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
