I just got done chatting with David Price, owner of Three Lions Pub, 4515 N. Oakland Ave. The bar, already popular with soccer fans, will open Friday at 5 a.m. for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The English native was "just a baby" for the last Royal Wedding – between Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson in 1986 – and decided to open early because of the high interest here in the States.
"It's a good chance for people to come together and have some fun," Price tells me. "I missed out on enjoying the street parties (last time). With the area's affinity for royals, I figured it was a good chance to come together and celebrate "trans-Atlantic style."
Originally, Price had hoped to open by 4 a.m. but city rules prevented that plan from coming to fruition. And since the pub can't serve alcohol until 6 a.m., Price says there will be tea, crumpets and cucumber sandwiches to tide customers over until the Pimm's starts flowing.
In conjunction with the wedding, the owners say it's also "Fancy Hat Day," so make sure to bring your "poshest" hat.
If you're up and watching, head on over. You won't find a better spot.
