Marquette University Athletics and Third Space Brewing have partnered on a new beer call Marquette Golden Ale. It's the first Golden Eagles officially licensed and co-branded craft beer.

The new 4.9 percent ABV Marquette Golden Ale will be available at all Marquette home games at Fiserv Forum, the Al McGuire Center and Valley Fields beginning Nov. 4.

The beer will also be available as early as next week at retail in southern Wisconsin wherever Third Space beers are sold.

"We wanted to craft a recipe for a really easy drinking, refreshing Golden Ale," said Kevin Wright, Third Space Brewing's co-founder and brewmaster. "The malt bill for this beer starts with our house pilsner malt which we complement with some Vienna malt to provide some soft honey and bread notes.

"We also use some flaked corn which gives a touch of sweet character to this dry and crisp beer.  This is balanced out with Bravo hops from the Pacific Northwest that provides a hint of citrus."

The beer and its recipe are not the same as the 77 Golden Ale that a team of Marquette students created in 2023 with local breweries Gathering Place, Broken Bat and Good City.

"We are extremely excited to team up with Marquette as its Official Craft Beer Partner," said Third Space Brewing Co-Founder & President Andy Gehl, . "With our brewery situated literally in Marquette's backyard, we look forward to establishing Third Space Brewing as Marquette's neighborhood brewery and to helping Marquette fans everywhere find their 'happy place' on game days and beyond."

The collaborators were brought together by Learfield's Marquette Sports Properties – Marquette's exclusive trademark licensing agent – which has dubbed the brewery, located at 1505 W. St. Paul Ave., near the university campus, the "Official Craft Beer Partner of the Golden Eagles and Marquette Athletics."

"This was a great opportunity for us to work closely with a great neighbor and partner to create a unique product for the Marquette community," said Marquette's Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl. "We are excited to see Marquette Golden Ale's release and to continue adding to the gameday experience for our Golden Eagle fans."

It is perhaps likely that this new partnership is why Marquette's student-led Blue & Gold Brewing decided not to collaborate again with Good City, Gathering Place and Broken Bat, two of which recently released its own malty Ring Out, Ahoya beer tribute to the MU basketball team.

A second collaboration by those brewers and Blue & Gold Brewing was released earlier this year.

"We're thrilled to bring these two neighbors together and create a great-tasting craft beer for our wonderful Marquette fans and community," said Brad Harrison, general manager of Marquette Sports Properties, "and we appreciate that Third Space is engaging Blue & Gold Brewing to continue to provide innovative learning experiences for students who are part of the Blue and Gold Brewing program."
