Levell Coppage scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 31-yard run with 1:17 to play as UW-Whitewater defeated Mount Union, 38-28, for the NCAA Division III championship.
The Warhawks, facing Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl for the fifth consecutive year, were led a 323-yard passing effort from senior quarterback Jeff Donovan.
Donovan completed 26 of his 40 attempts and also threw for a pair of touchdowns. Coppage ran 22 times for 11 yards and three touchdowns for Whitewater, which capped off a 15-0 season with its second championship in three seasons.
Kicker Jeff Schebler sealed the deal with a 44-yard field goal to make it a 10-point game with 25 seconds to play.
The game was delayed nearly five hours due to a massive snowstorm that hit the east coast.
