Sprecher Brewery, 701 W. Glendale Ave., will host The Great Sprecher Root Beer Floatilla, Thursday, Aug. 6 from noon until 8 p.m. and they're hoping to set a world record for the largest root beer float drive-thru.
August 6 is National Root Beer Float Day.
Sprecher says it will have the supplies – 7,800 gallons of fire-brewed root beer, made with Milwaukee-area honey, and 4,000 containers of Cedar Crest ice cream – and people power to make up to 50,000 root beer floats.
There is currently no world record holder that Sprecher must beat with the event. The brewery will submit the results to Guinness hoping for certification of a new world record.
"2020 is a year when everyone needs something to feel good about and what makes you feel better than a delicious root beer float?" said Sharad Chadha, CEO of Sprecher Brewing, in a statement.
"This free float event is the perfect way for us to connect with fans and introduce Sprecher to those who haven’t tried it before, all while contributing to a good cause."
Although the floats are free, Sprecher hopes you'll make an online donation to Feeding America, which you can do quickly and easily by texting the word FLOAT to 41444.
For safety's sake, the floats are meant to be enjoyed inside patrons' vehicles or at home. Guests are asked to remain in their cars at all times. Masked staff will bring floats to the cars.
Enter by traveling eastbound on Glendale Avenue from Green Bay Avenue and exit eastbound on Glendale to Port Washington Road. If there are backups, please be patient and do not park off-site and walk up to the drive-thru.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
