There’s something about a phrase like "hidden waterfall" that makes every nature enthusiast want to pack their backpack, charge up their camera and escape from life’s routine. Luckily, Wisconsin is no stranger to natural wonders, with unique topography formed by glaciers that includes dense forests, rolling hills and literally thousands of lakes. Plan your next adventure with us and learn about Wisconsin’s must-explore destinations.
Big Manitou Falls – Superior
If you’re looking for a waterfall that can truly stand with some of the world’s best, then Superior’s Big Manitou is for you. Big Manitou’s 165-foot height will leave you awestruck, and what it delivers better than most falls is the excellent 10 miles of trails in the surrounding area. This means you can easily make a day out of your trip.
North Beach – Racine
Selected by USA Today as one of the "51 Great American Beaches," North Beach is located on the Lake Michigan waterfront. This beach sits on 50 acres and has 2,500 feet of shoreline open to the public for swimming, fishing and picnics. The beach has been designated a Blue Wave Beach (America's first environmental certification for beaches) since 2004.
Willow River State Park – Hudson
Located in Waushara County, Willow Creek County Park is the smallest of 14 parks and spans one acre of land. It features a trout stream, sandy beach, prairie remnants and a nature center on rolling countryside. Spectacular views of the historic Willow Falls and the Willow River Gorge included. This mini oasis has it all.
Cave of the Mounds – Blue Mounds
Cave of the Mounds in Blue Mounds is designated a "National Natural Landmark," yet it may be easier to remember it as the "jewel box" of America’s major caves, named as such for the delicacy of its formations. Choose a hot summer day to visit – the cave has the same temperature every day of the year, a cool 50 degrees.
Cascade Falls – Osceola
This picturesque, 25-foot waterfall is located in the small village of Osceola. It’s nestled along the St. Croix River, and Cascade Falls once was the reason for founding the village. In fact, you can still see remnants of a mill and brewery today. South of the falls is the Osceola Bluff – don’t miss the scenic hike to the top!
