For Milwaukeeans with a penchant for partying, summertime means beer in plastic cups, margaritas on patios or an endless assortment of warm-weather cocktails from long island ice teas to pina coladas. Winter drinking, on the other hand, entails rounds of dark beers, spiked hot drinks and staple spirits like scotch and whiskey. Regardless of the temperature, there's no shortage of alcoholic beverages in Milwaukee, but do you imbibe more in summer or winter?

Last week's question: What is Milwaukee's resolution for '07?

I have lived near three other large cities, and Milwaukee has more to offer than the people that grew up here realize. I moved Downtown three years ago, but I am very concerned about the crime. If people cannot feel safe at walking around in the evening, then you can build all the condos you want and they will be empty. The Time article last month profiling the Milwaukee crime wave is not the publicity we need. Milwaukee and Tom Barrett need to take a clue from New York City, now one of the safest cities in America, and get busy.

Milwaukee's resolution, if I had my druthers, would be to go smoke-free in bars and restaurants.  If we are to become a world-class city, this is how we can do it, by being smart and taking care of each other.  If we individually talk about a healthy New Year, this is one way that we can collectively make it a great New Year!

Something needs to be done about the crime. I know so many people who have moved to Bay View to "escape" it, and now bad stuff's starting to happen over there as well, making me think it's a problem everywhere in Milwaukee, not just Downtown and in Riverwest. I am fearful Milwaukee is going to become another Detroit, or worse.

Milwaukee needs more fun stuff for kids to do indoors during the winter. OMC wrote a story about this a long time ago, and it's true. We need indoor gyms and a "Pump It Up" like they have in Brookfield. My friend lives in Atlanta and they have a "Monkey Joe's" which is very fun and much healthier than Chuck E. Cheese's.

Milwaukee needs to improve its collective self esteem. Yes, we have a crime problem, a pollution problem and still struggle to shake the Fonzie perception, but we have a lot of talented people in this city doing very creative things.
