Milwaukee is and has been home to a plethora of amazing musicians so it isn’t easy to identify the best of the best. However, when the Social Circle was posed with the question this week, they came up with a diverse array of past and present Brew City talent.

Scott Jackson: "Paul Cebar. A Milwaukee icon. Paul never fails to produce fresh, original, soulful music. And Harvey Scales, the real deal."

Damien Jaques: "The Velvet Whip. Way ahead of its time. Psychedelic rock in the late '60s and early '70s. Cross-dressing lead singer. Incredibly entertaining in concert."

Brian James: "Violent Femmes."

Damien Jones: "Les Paul, and all the dedicated musicians that have inspired me locally. James Murphy comes to mind, as well as Hugh Bob, and the guys from Boombox Saints. The list is kind of long. We have some seriously creative and talented people in Milwaukee."

Phil Kirby: "Die Kreuzen."

Jen Skladanek: "The Lovelies with Liv Mueller. Aside from being life long friends, Liv strives and  is/was constantly re-inventing herself. Her voice and lyrics have always touched my heart and she is self-taught, which also is commendable in my opinion. And Barbara Endes and Bill Backes totally brought it on stage every time!"

Lauryl Sulfate: "I should be self-promotey and name my own band, but I'm going with one of my favorite bands not just in Milwaukee, but in the whole universe: Competitorr! Also, maybe it's hackneyed, but hello, the Femmes?"

Jeanette Sunrain: "Colour Radio from the ‘80s. Still love them."

Marty Tripp: "Infinite End."

Steve Weinstein: "Uncle Vinty back in the ‘70s. Used to see him at the Kenwood Inn at UWM, back in the day. I heard Vinty died in San Francisco a number of years ago."
