Moms. From unconditional to controlling, they are one of the most influential people in our life. Even after they’re gone.

This week, in honor of Mother’s Day, we asked the Social Circle what makes or made their mom particularly awesome, and the responses ranged greatly, from "she made me" to "she loved life and lived it uncompromisingly."

Alexander Allgood: "She's adopted five kids from the inner city of Milwaukee after her three biological kids were all grown – and continues to work full time."

Kevin Thomas Atkinson: "The way she hands me money without anyone noticing. Like she was a former spy who dealt drugs on the side."

Jason Belcher: "She had me."

Christopher Corona: "She has put up with me for 47 years!"

Steph Davies: "The fact that when I called her at 29 and told her I was quitting my job to be an artist she said 'do it.'"

Helene Feider: "She raised 12 amazing children and she still has more energy than me!"

Margaret Killinger Krueger: "My mom was 'green' before it was popular. We saved things, reused things, up cycled, composted, grew our own food, sewed clothes, mended, saved water, rarely ate processed foods, steered clear of chemicals, understood the balance of nature on our environment, walked everywhere and more! I am who I am today because of my mom."

Tammy Kolbe: "Her super dry sense of humor. Me and my sister got it from her."

Joshua Manchester: "My mother makes Mother Theresa look like a greedy, self absorbed and mean-spirited person."

Laura Martin: "Unconditional love through all my detours and tattoos."

Gretchen Mead: "I have a joke with my mom that I will not tell her I like the shirt she is wearing, because she will try to give it to me on the spot right off her back - I mean, that could get uncomfortable if we were in public."

Hannah Medrow: "She has a life so she leaves her kids alone to live ours. She's supportive without being too involved. This may not suit everyone, but I love it."

Jodie Niles: "She's like a walking history book of all that's happened throughout many years of important family and world events."

Patti O'Dell-Dooley: "She gave me life, duh! LOL! Really, what would this world do without the awesomeness of me and my sibling?"

Bill Halmo: "She put up with a bum like me when she was alive."

Maria Holden Raboin: "That she's three miles away."

Sara Risley: "She loved life and lived it uncompromisingly until she died in my arms. I miss her every minute."
