Burger fans on the East Side have reason to celebrate today.

Sobelman's Pub and Grill, which has been serving up delicious burgers for the past decade at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave., is opening a new location in the building that formerly housed Patty Burger.

Sobelman's Tallgrass Grill, 1952 N. Farwell Ave., is slated to open June 1 and will feature burgers made with meat supplied by Tallgrass Beef Co., which was founded by TV journalist Bill Kurtis and feeds its cows grass rather than corn, which is believed to make more flavorful as well as lower in fat.

"It's a special product," owner Dave Sobelman said. "It's a great tasting burger that is better for you."

Sobelman laughed when asked if the new location would serve the bar's signature Bloody Mary.

"I knew that was going to come up," he said. "We don't have a liquor license now. We were going to listen to what the customers say and if there is enough of a demand, we'd look into getting one. 

"We hadn't planned on serving anything but burgers, but we are almost as popular for the Bloody Marys as we aer the burgers. 

"We'll just play it by ear."

Patty Burger which is based in Chicago, opened the business at Farwell Ave. and Irving Place a little more than two years ago but closed due to sluggish sales blamed on the economy.
