The smooth jazz music format moved from WJZX-FM (106.9) at noon today and is heading to the station's HD Radio sub-channel.
But what you're hearing in its place isn't there for the long haul.
"Tiger Radio," a collection of cheating songs punctuated by little recorded "drop-ins" like "who's you're caddy?" is clearly "stunting."
That's what radio stations frequently do in a format change to create a break between the old identity and the new one. The long Memorial Day weekend is prime time for such stunts and format changes.
Saga isn't saying what's replacing the smooth jazz long-term, but general manager Tom Joerres tells me nobody, on-air or off-air, is losing a job in the shift. That would include on-air veteran Patti Genko, who's been doing the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift on WJZX. As for the smooth jazz format on the HD sub-channel of WJZX, you'll need an HD radio to hear it.
