Everyone could've predicted Chance the Rapper's ascending star would guide him toward the big screen eventually. Not as many people, however, would've predicted his movie debut would be a crazy-looking horror movie featuring werewolves, witches, ghosts and delivery pizza.
But that's what he's serving up this year with "Slice" – and Milwaukee is one of the few cities that will get a first bite at this oddball horror comedy hybrid thanks to the Oriental Theatre, which is one of 20 theaters involved in the film's world premiere on Monday, Sept. 10.
While the official in-person red carpet world premiere will take place in Chicago's ArcLight Cinema, several other theaters across the nation – including Milwaukee's Oriental Theatre – will also screen the film at the same time on Monday night, followed afterward by a live simulcast of a Q&A with Chance the Rapper, fellow star and "Deadpool 2" scene-stealer Zazie Beetz, Paul Scheer, Rae Gray and director Austin Vesely (who directed Chance's "Sunday Candy" and "Angels" music videos).
As for the movie itself, "Slice" is a horror movie about ... um, so it's hard to say. There appears to be ghosts and werewolves and bloody murder and a portal to hell located underneath a crappy pizza joint and, well, here's the (probably NSFW) trailer.
So that didn't clarify anything, but it certainly looks like some '80s-themed bonkers-ness – and we are game for that.
Tickets are on sale at the Oriental Theatre's website.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
