I spoke to The East Side Association's Jim Plaisted this morning about the status of the now infamous sinkhole, and he just made it official.

In an e-mail, he said, "The City of Milwaukee has informed me that the date for opening up one lane of traffic in each direction at Oakland and North is now Sept. 13."

He said the short delay is attributed to getting new water main piping from Alabama.

"There have also been issues with rain during the project," he said. "Crews are working two eight hour shifts (16 hours per day) to complete repairs at the sinkhole. Except for the water main pipe delay, no other delays are expected at this time."

Said Plaisted, "This is a good chance to inform everyone that while traffic will be reopened that there is still work on a sewer lining project in that same area following the restoration of the street. This will take several weeks and will minimize traffic lanes through the intersection."
