This afternoon, Sendik's announced that the local grocer expects to open a new location this autumn on the east side of Miller Park Way.
Located between Mitchell Street and Burnham Street, the new Sendik's will be a 42,000-square foot store attached in the same building to a 16,000-square foot Goodwill. An as-yet unnamed sit-down restaurant will also move to the currently undeveloped site, the last open site to be developed on the commercial stretch in West Milwaukee.
"We are excited about the opportunity to serve a new area in the city and connect with a new community," said family co-owner Ted Balistreri in a press release. "West Milwaukee is a densely populated, growing area, and we hope the new location will expand consumer options with a high-quality, family owned grocery destination."
"West Milwaukee is looking forward to the new partnership and is pleased about these additions to Miller Park Way," added West Milwaukee village president Ronald Hayward in the release. "This will cap off 20 years of redevelopment on this thriving corridor."
A groundbreaking ceremony at the new site – with village trustees, Balistreri family members and Greg Devorkin of Devo Properties in attendance – will be held on Monday, April 11 at 11 a.m.
The upcoming Miller Park Way store is the latest local addition for the Sendik's brand, which most recently added a location in Brookfield, replacing the former Grasch Foods at 13950 West North Ave.
