An upcoming summer comedy, a celebration of Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez and a showcase for our most recent Best Director winner are all headed to the big screen this spring for Marcus Theatres' second CineLatino Film Festival.

Running April 11-15, the film festival highlights diverse Hispanic-focused stories, perspectives and filmmakers – while also donating a portion of the net proceeds to local Hispanic health and education initiatives.

"CineLatino is the perfect opportunity to come together and embrace one of Southeastern Wisconsin’s most influential and growing ethnic groups," said Rolando Rodriguez, chairman, president and CEO of Marcus Theatres, in a press release. "Thanks to the support of our sponsors and the success of the inaugural CineLatino, we are excited to extend this year’s event to five days.

"Now we have an even greater platform to showcase amazing films, celebrate the rich Hispanic culture through special activities and give back to our community partners."

The festivities will begin on Wednesday, April 11, with a premiere screening of the new Eugenio Derbez/Anna Faris comedy "Overboard" at the Marcus BistroPlex dinner theater in Greendale. A remake of the '80s Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell rom-com of the same name, "Overboard" follows a struggling carpet cleaner (Faris) who gets revenge on a wealthy yacht owner (Derbez) by convincing him they're married after he falls off his boat and loses his memory.

The film doesn't come out in theaters until the following month on May 4, so the CineLatino opening night showing will offer viewers a first look – as well as a special reception featuring fundraising opportunities, appetizers, beverages, live art, entertainment from the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF).

The final four days of the CineLatino Film Festival will take place at the Marcus South Shore Cinema in Oak Creek, featuring 12 movies including:

New releases

• "La Boda de Valentina": After her boyfriend proposes to her, a woman must briefly abandon her happy life in America to confront her crazy political dynasty of a family down in Mexico.
• "La Novia del Desierto": After spending most of her life working for a family in Buenos Aires, 54-year-old Teresa is sent on a new adventure across a desert after her employers decide to sell their home.
• "Los Que Aman Odian": A doctor looking for vacation and escape finds himself intertwined in the lives and stories of his fellow hotel inhabitants 
• "A Fantastic Woman": The winner of Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Oscars, "A Fantastic Woman" follows a transsexual woman who must face the family of her loved one after he unexpectedly passes away. 
• "Una Mujer Sin Filtro": An early 2018 box office hit in Mexico, "Una Mujer Sin Filtro" – translating to "A Woman Without a Filter" – follows a kind, quiet woman who is suddenly blessed with being forced to say or express exactly how she feels. 

Family favorites

• "Coco": Pixar's latest animated adventure follows a young Hispanic musician who enters the Land of the Dead to find his lost-long great-great-grandfather and redeem his name. 
• "Condorito: La Pelicula": Based on one of the most popular comic strips in Latin America, a condor attempts to save the planet from an evil alien ruler. 
• "Ferdinand": From the creators of "Ice Age" and "Rio" comes the Oscar-nominated story of a peaceful bull hoping to return to his family's farm instead of the bullfighting ring. 
• "Tesoros": Two brothers head off an adventure to find lost pirate treasure in this family film.

Guillermo del Toro tribute 

• "Pan's Labyrinth": The Mexican director's first award-winning feature, scoring three Oscars (Cinematography, Art Direction and Makeup) in 2007, "Pan's Labyrinth" is darkly fantastical tale of a young girl growing up during war-torn 1944 Spain who comes upon a mysterious fawn that asks terrifying tasks of her. 
• "The Shape of Water": The winner of four 2018 Academy Awards – including Best Director and Picture – del Toro's latest blend of horror, fantasy and reality finds a mute woman who falls in love with a fish monster brought to her secret U.S. facility by a cruel government official. 

Selena celebration

• "Selena": In her breakout big screen role, Jennifer Lopez stars as the beloved Latin music hitmaker in this 1997 Golden Globe-nominated biopic.  

The CineLatino Film Festival will also celebrate Selena's birthday – featuring food and beverage specials, a lookalike contest and a 8 p.m. film screening of the popular biopic – on Friday, April 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The special events will continue throughout the weekend with a Cerveceros Tailgate from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, featuring games, spin-the-wheel and appearances by Bernie Brewer, the Chorizo and more friends, as well as a Family Fiesta from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, with a variety of crafts, face-painting and other fun activities before screenings of "Coco" and "Ferdinand." All the events are complimentary, although food, beverages and film tickets are sold separately. 

As for tickets for any of the films on their own, the new releases selections are all regular pricing, while "Selena," the Guillermo del Toro picks and the family favorites are all $7.50. The opening night celebration and screening at BistroPlex, meanwhile, will cost $85 – with 100 percent of the event's net proceeds going toward the Aurora Cancer Care-Spanish Clinic.
