On to the notes, also known as a hearty appetizer served before the Larry King Lounge.

As the Brett turns: Just when you thought it was safe to turn on ESPN, the self-proclaimed "Worldwide Leader in Sports" discovered more Brett Favre news to report.

First, Favre told members of the Southern Mississippi baseball team that if they made it back to the College World Series he'd return for another season with the Vikings.

Then came rumors, followed by confirmation on officialbrettfavre.com, that Favre recently underwent surgery on his injured ankle. The complete statement:

"This is to confirm that I did have a procedure to remove some scar tissue and bone spurs from my ankle which had been bothering me for a period of time. I appreciate your concerns."

Favre is coming back, folks. We don't know what day he'll stroll into camp or how long the Vikings will twist, but it's clear that he's coming back.

For those who haven't committed the 2010 schedule to memory, the Packers host Minnesota on "Sunday Night Football" Oct. 24 at Lambeau Field and travel to Minnesota on Nov. 21, their first game after a late bye week.

You're kidding, right? Imagine you are a professional athlete awaiting trial on felony drug possession charges. What's the last thing you would want to do?

If you said "Anger the prosecutors/judge," give yourself a gold star.

Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly did that in Harris County (Texas) and the results can't be positive. Jolly missed a trial date, citing complications from appendicitis. Then, a flyer surfaced with him hosting a party at a Houston club, The Blue Door, two days later.

Under terms of his $10,000 bond, Jolly was to refrain from using alcohol and drugs. Now, pictures are surfacing that show him drinking. The judge in the case has ordered Jolly to submit a hair sample for drug/alcohol testing, follow a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, avoid events/places with drugs and alcohol and submit to a alcohol evaluation.

No matter how things work out in court, it seems possible that Jolly will be suspended by the National Football League.

Because Jolly is an unsigned restricted free agent, the Packers could rescind their $2.521 million offer to him. During organized team activities this week, the team moved Ryan Pickett from nose tackle to left end -- Jolly's position -- and shifted second-year man B.J. Raji to nose tackle.

Behind Bucky's bench: Wisconsin hockey coach Mike Eaves named Gary Shuchuk and Bill Butters as assistant coaches. "Our hockey program is ecstatic to bring on board two outstanding people," Eaves said. Both Shuchuk and Butters have NHL playing experience.

We've been waiting long enough; bring on the 80-degree weather... Speaking of waiting, if the Brewers are going to play badly, could they at least be quick about it? These three-hour marathons are tough to watch... This was not a great week for officials. NBA referee Joe DeRosa was suspended without pay for tossing a ball to a heckler this week in Orlando and then asking to have a guy relocated to another seat. Friday night at Target Field, home plate umpire Ed Rapuano seemed to go overboard in confronting Brewers pitcher Dave Bush. Rapuano should be sanctioned, too... What was more surprising -- watching Brewers centerfielder Carlos Gomez admire his homer late in a blowout loss to his former team or hearing that he apologized for it after the game?... How do you think Roy Oswalt would look in Brewers blue?... It was good to see Lazar Hayward at the NBA draft workouts, which were televised on ESPNU. Hopefully, the pros will see in Hayward some of the qualities that Wes Matthews, Jr., brought to the Jazz this season... The rumors about Delonte West and LeBron James' mother were disgusting, unfounded and don't need to be repeated... Welcome to the majors, Jonathan Lucroy... How long before John Axford's mustache has its own Facebook page?... Kudos to the girls soccer squad at Brookfield East, which beat rival Brookfield Central on Friday night, 2-1... I was happy to hear that Kathi Bennett is a head coach again. Northern Illinois. Bennett, the daughter of former Badgers coach Dick Bennett, will have the Huskies playing better defense in no time... Given what's happened in recent weeks, nothing is certain. But, it'll be cool to see the Chicago Blackhawks play for the Stanley Cup... If anybody tells you they knew that Livan Hernandez and Jon Garland would pitch better this season than Randy Wolf and Doug Davis, they are probably lying... Is it just me, or do you expect to see Floyd Landis and Jose Canseco appearing on a reality show soon?... As a franchise legend, Gale Sayers has a right to speak out about the Bears' troubles. As a current player, Brian Urlacher has a right to rip Sayers. Packers fans have a right to enjoy every moment of the debate.
