Baseball may be over in Brew City for 2022, but there's already plenty to look forward to next year – including a newly announced visit from the social media sensation Savannah Bananas baseball team.
On Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9, the Savannah Bananas will bring its 2023 Banana Ball world tour to Franklin Field for a pair of exhibition games against the Milwaukee Milkmen – most recently seen almost winning the 2022 American Association of Professional Baseball championship against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks last month.
So ... who are the Savannah Bananas?
The Bananas are basically baseball's version of the Harlem Globetrotters, touring ballparks around the country with their particular brand of "Banana Ball" – a high-energy, extremely goofy version of the game featuring rules that turn dead balls into on-field action, significant crowd involvement, players dancing on the diamond and a surprising amount of people attempting to hit, pitch and field while on stilts. It's the great American Pastime meets great tomfoolery.
Tickets for the duo of games next fall are not on sale yet – but fans can sign up for the presale list and for alerts by heading to the Savannah Bananas website. And get pumped for a very fun and a-peeling (because Bananas!) time at the ballpark – especially if the Brewers decide to have another second half swoon and we need a pick-me-up.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
