October promises to be a fashionable month here in Milwaukee, with our own Fashion Week starting on Oct. 3 and the RunUp to the Runway show on Monday, Oct. 27.
The RunUp event was created by Symphony League volunteers to appeal to a more diverse audience who is looking for fun fashion, but not necessarily pricey couture. The goal is to raise money for and awareness of the MSO and the burgeoning fashion scene in Milwaukee, and is a precursor to the Symphony Style fashion show.
Run-up is looking for local designers to participate in this year's event and will be at 88NINE Radio Milwaukee's Summer Rent Party this Friday, June 20 at MOCT. Fashion designers are encouraged to bring their best piece and a model to wear it down the runway for RunUp's panel during the party, which starts at 7 p.m. and features DJs and drink specials. There's a $10 cover to get in.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
