Born and raised in Milwaukee, a lover of life and and a connector of people, I'm a mother, a real estate developer, a philanthropist, a singer and more. And last, but most definitely not least, I love Milwaukee!
I often get asked – by people I know and don't know alike, out of towners and MKE locals – what is there to do here? Is there any live music tonight? What's a good place for a date? What's a good place to hang with a group of friends? You get the point ...
So I've decided to share my weekly picks of cool happenings in and around our lovely city. I may repeat some "regulars," and the list by no means is comprehensive, but it will give you glimpse of some of the great things our great city has to offer for entertainment.
Saturday, Sept. 9
If you can't make early morning yoga, because you may or may not have partied too hard last night, you can catch Yoga and Wine at 4th Quarter Sports Bar & Grill on King Drive. Hosted by Studio69 Yoga's Frederick Coleman, the event starts at 1 p.m. I aspire to be a serious Yogi someday, like when I grow up, so I'm always excited about yoga events outside of the box.
Summer is still among us, even though it seems to have hidden for a moment, so please take some time to still enjoy the city's outside offerings. Layton Boulevard West Neighbors are hosting the Silver City International Festival on 35th and National Avenue. This fun festival celebrates the cultural diversity of Silver City through food, the arts and music from noon until 5 p.m.
Later on, I plan to swing by The Jazz Estate for the Donna Woodall Quintet at 8 p.m., followed by the Late Night Session featuring the uber talented husband/wife duo B~Free and Quentin Farr! They will hit the stage at 11 p.m.
Gibraltar is keeping the theme going and hosting an evening featuring the music of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings tonight. Jones passed away last year after a battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of great music. If you get time, you should check out "Miss Sharon Jones!" a documentary that was featured in the 2016 Milwaukee Film Festival and is now available on Netflix. I fell in love with her and her music after watching.
Sunday, Sept. 10
The Brady Street BID will host #SundayFunday from noon until 4 p.m. on Arlington and Brady Street. There are several places you can go in for brunch, including the Garage or Dorsia.
But the only other thing that matters today is the Packers season opener! The game will kickoff at 3 p.m., and while I'll be watching with friends, there are many options for Packer parties around the city! Go Pack go!!!
Monday, Sept. 11
Tonight, the Mark Davis Trio is at The Jazz Estate, starting at 8 p.m. They don't host live music every Monday, so here's your chance if you've been looking for a place to start the week on a musical note.
Tuesday, Sept. 12
Each and every Tuesday (well, almost), you can find me at Skybox Sports Bar for Tuesday Tunes, "the livest free show in the land," featuring Cigarette Break band and various singers featured weekly. The band does two sets, starting at 9 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 13
UWM's Lyrical Sanctuary is back, featuring Ebony Stewart, in the Union Fireside Lounge starting at 8 p.m. There's also Bachata and Old School Salsa night at Gibraltar! Dust off your dancing shoes, as music starts at 8 p.m. Then also at 8pm, the Chris Madsen Quartet from Chicago is at The Jazz Estate. Decisions, decisions!
Thursday, Sept. 14
For my spoken word lovers, Poets Read Some Stuff in Milwaukee featuring Dasha Kelly will be held at Var Gallery and Studios at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 15
Tonight, I'm excited to be part of Karaoke for a Cause at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee's Fall Ball. In short, this is a fundraiser for 88Nine and a super fun event, not to be missed. And you heard me when I said I was part of it? Please consider supporting this event by attending ($65 tickets) and cheering me on or making a donation to myself or any of the amazing participants in the Karaoke for a Cause portion. Info can be found on 88Nine's website. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Karaoke portion beginning at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, Quiet Clubbing at the Milwaukee Art Museum will feature DJ's Bizzon and Why B. from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Milwaukee's Finest Band is also at the Alley Cat Lounge above the Five O'Clock Steakhouse. This is a really cool lounge and a talented band. They start at 8 p.m.
By no means is this a comprehensive list ... there's a lot going on in this beautiful place we call home. If you see me, say hi! Until next week, have fun and enjoy Milwaukee!
