For the seventh straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2013."
Note: Need proof that I always forget about these places? As many of you have pointed out since I published this piece, I obviously forgot that Ilija's Place is sadly closed.
We’ve recommended making dining lists in the past, and I still highly recommend you do this. Soon, though, OnMilwaukee.com will launch a new, innovative way to keep track of your Milwaukee lists. More on this later. For now, allow me to list five area restaurants that I ‘always" seem to forget about. Holding my feet to the Dining Month fire, I’ll do my best to get to these great spots again very soon.
Jing’s
Chinese lunch buffet? I’m there. Yet, maybe because of its lack of street presence I never seem to remember Jing’s. It’s great and ranks right up there with the best Chinese food in the area. They deliver, too.
Wolf Peach
I love this space, the views and the food. Maybe I’m clinging to the Roots name and can’t wrap my arms around the the new name but I never forget a meal here but just don’t get there as often as I should.
Mad Rooster
It’s still rather new, but as big breakfast lover I have no excuses for not yet trying Mad Rooster, 4401 W. Greenfield Ave., in West Milwaukee. This must change.
Ilija's Place
Like one needs an excuse to drink slivovitz? It’s a bit out of way, or at least the way(s) I go, but I love this little Cudahy gem. I need to get back there soon. Sarma is calling!
Jackson Grill
Jackson Grill on Mitchell street is old-school, home-made goodness. Yet, it’s never top of mind for me. It should be.

A life-long and passionate community leader and Milwaukeean, Jeff Sherman is a co-founder of OnMilwaukee.
He grew up in Wauwatosa and graduated from Marquette University, as a Warrior. He holds an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University, and is the founding president of Young Professionals of Milwaukee (YPM)/Fuel Milwaukee.
Early in his career, Sherman was one of youngest members of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, and currently is involved in numerous civic and community groups - including board positions at The Wisconsin Center District, Wisconsin Club and Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. He's honored to have been named to The Business Journal's "30 under 30" and Milwaukee Magazine's "35 under 35" lists.
He owns a condo in Downtown and lives in greater Milwaukee with his wife Stephanie, his son, Jake, and daughter Pierce. He's a political, music, sports and news junkie and thinks, for what it's worth, that all new movies should be released in theaters, on demand, online and on DVD simultaneously.
