Earlier this month, New Land Enterprises announced that it is proposing a new 25-story tower, designed by Korb+Associates for a surface parking lot on the southeast corner of Farwell Avenue and Curtis Place on the lower East Side.
On Tuesday, New Land released new renderings of the proposed Renaissance Place project, 1490 N. Farwell Ave.
It also announced that it will hold a public meeting this Thursday evening at Renaissance Place, 1451 N. Prospect Ave., at 6 p.m. to get neighborhood feedback on the design.
The building would have 310 apartments (33 studios, 195 one-bedrooms, 49 two-bedrooms and 33 two-bedrooms with dens) as well as 464 parking spaces on seven floors.
The project would also keep the 1907 First Church of Christ Scientist building – more recently an events venue called Renaissance Place – designed by Chicago-based architect Solon Spencer Beman.
The developers say that the project would add more than $1 million to the City of Milwaukee tax rolls.
Amenities would include secure indoor and outdoor bike storage, rooftop terrace and pool, indoor/outdoor club room, fitness center, golf simulator, co-working space, pet grooming room, car wash station and more.
"We have engaged a traffic engineer to ensure that the design doesn't create congestion issues and are working to make
sure the project meets the needs of the neighborhood," reads a one-sheet description of the project created by New Land.
"At Renaissance Place, we propose to renovate the existing structure and attract an expert partner to program the space and transform it into a neighborhood asset, used more than just on the weekends."
The same architects designed New Land's Ascent, which last year was named the world's tallest timber tower.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
