Even if you haven't made it to the State Fair yet, you can still indulge in the great stuff we like this week in this edition of OnMilwaukee.com Recommends.
Lifeway Greek Style Fro-Yo – This frozen yogurt is the kind of dessert you can eat without guilt. It's all natural, gluten-free and 99% lactose free, probiotic and loaded with protein. Unlike a lot of frozen yogurt, this Greek style fro-yo doesn't really pretend to be ice cream. It tastes like yogurt. So, if you like yogurt, you'll love it. If you prefer to think you're eating super-sweet ice cream, then you won't likely enjoy it as much. We tried the honey, chocolate swirl and orange swirl at home with the kids. Despite their love of honey, the little ones found the honey fro-yo's flavor a little off-putting. However, we polished off the chocolate swirl and most of the orange quite happily. The orange, in fact, tasted more than a little like sherbet. Yum. – Bobby Tanzilo
Maple cotton candy at the State Fair – This staple State Fair confection was recommended to me for many years, but I finally tried it this year. Even if you don't normally like cotton candy, you might want to try this (they are always handing out samples at the booth inside the Wisconsin Products Pavilion) because it's less sugary and more maple-y than the usual pink or blue variety. Plus, it's always fun – almost magical – to watch them make the cotton candy on the big round machine. – Molly Snyder
Milwaukee Brewing Co.'s Love Rock – I spent most of my winter and spring drinking dark, heavy beers, so it was about time I switched it up with something a little lighter. Love Rock, with its crisp, simple flavor, fits the bill perfectly. It's named after the storied Lake Michigan "love rock" (the origins of which can be found on Milwaukee Brewing Co.'s website), which is even more fitting – this lovely lager makes for a great summertime fling. – Renee Lorenz
MyYoMy – I'm not a great ice cream fan, but every now and then I like a dish of something cool. Recently I stumbled into MyYoMy, one of the thousands of frozen yogurt places opening up in our area. The thing I loved about this place, and I'm not saying it is the only one, is the fresh berries. I love blackberries and they had these giant, fresh blackberries to put over any kind of yogurt you purchase. I guess I was surprised at how fresh the topping was. The store located on Water Street just south of the bridge from the Third Ward to Walker's Point and it's clearly worth a stop. – Dave Begel
