"Copper," the Bucks and reissued tunes are what's on tap for this edition of OnMilwaukee.com Recommends. Read on and get the scoop on the stuff we like this week.
"Copper" Season 1 on DVD and Blu-ray – BBC America's first original scripted series debuted just this year, and it's as sexy and gritty as anything HBO or Showtime can dish up. It follows 1860s New York City cop Kevin "Corky" Corcoran as he polices the streets of notorious Five Points and simultaneously searches for his wife, who went missing while he was serving in the Civil War. He's aided in both pursuits by a cast of characters from prostitutes to pedigreed socialites, making "Copper" as much a glimpse into NYC's (fictionalized) history as it is a captivating crime drama. If you didn't catch it on television, pick it up on DVD or Blu-ray now. – Renee Lorenz
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros reissues (Epitaph) – When former Clash frontman Joe Strummer died in 2002 at age 50, he was in the middle of a creative renaissance. For nearly two decades Strummer's solo output had been sporadic and only occasionally inspiring. But that all changed when Strummer formed the Mescaleros, signed with indie Hellcat Records and released "Rock Art and The X-Ray Style," in 1999, and "Global-A-Go-Go" two years later. His last record, "Streetcore," was issued by the label posthumously. These discs showed Strummer was still full of fire and found him re-energized by the young guns in his new band. Epitaph now reissues all three with bonus tracks all around. But the biggest prize of all is rediscovering the revitalized Strummer a decade later. We still miss ya, Joe. Epitaph.com – Bobby Tanzilo
The Milwaukee Bucks' home opener – The Milwaukee Bucks host the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at the BMO Harris Bradley Center at 7:30 p.m. It is the team's home opener and features the marquee matchup of the Cavaliers' Rookie of Year point guard Kyrie Irving against the Bucks' Brandon Jennings. Jennings has a desire to make the All-Star team this season, and said he knows he needs to play well against the other elite point guards in the conference. Also being the home opener, the Bucks will want to get off to a good start to build some momentum for the season. It's a game definitely worth checking out. – Jim Owczarski
