June 23 is National Typewriter Day and as of today, June 24 is "QWERTY MKE Day." In Milwaukee, anyway.

Christopher Latham Sholes invented the typewriter – and along with it the QWERTY keyboard that is still used on our phones and computers today – 150 years ago.

The public is invited to attend the official proclamation on Saturday, June 24 at 2 p.m. in front of the Forest Home Cemetery office, 2405 W. Forest Home Ave. Tours of the cemetery highlighting Sholes' resting place, a QWERTY Marketplace in the Chapel and free "Type Talks" will also happen from 1-6 p.m.

This is part of QWERTYFEST MKE, Milwaukee's newest festival celebrating the invention of the typewriter in Milwaukee 150 years ago.

This is definitely something for Milwaukeeans to be proud of.
