While the presidential candidates were yammering away on the other channels, the Philadelphia Phillies put the finishing touches on their run to the National League pennant.

Sparked by Jimmy Rollins' leadoff homer and another dazzling start by Cole Hamels, the Phillies defeated Los Angeles, 5-1, to win Game 5 Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium and take the NCLS by a four games to one margin.

The Phillies, who have lost more than any other franchise in pro sports, will meet either Tampa Bay or Boston in the World Series. The Rays lead the best-of-seven ALCS, 3-1, heading into Game 5 on Thursday night at Fenway Park.

As the Phillies donned their goggles (a relatively new tradition worth ending) for the champagne celebration (an old tradition worth ending), I began to wonder how Brewers fans feel about the development.

Do you take comfort in knowing that the team that dispatched the local side has a chance to win the whole enchilada? Or, are you wistfully thinking "That could/should have been us."

Given what has happened to the University of Wisconsin football season, we can call this "The Toledo Effect." The Badgers lost a road game against underdog Michigan. That was bad, especially because the Wolverines had lost a previous home game to underdog Utah. Last week, Michigan puked away a home game against Toledo. That made the Badgers' loss in the Big House look even worse in retrospect.

With that said, what do you think about the Phillies winning the pennant and potentially taking the World Series? Are you simply happy that the Brewers won a playoff game and the Cubs did not? What is the mentality in Brewer Nation?
