The pinwheels on the Riverwalk outside Borders -- It's the little things, really, that help add value and vibrancy to any neighborhood. In Downtown Milwaukee, the Riverwalk continues to expand and enlighten itself with art. One simple example -- the colorful pinwheels in the planters outside Border's. I'm sure it only took a few minutes and cost only a few bucks, but they make you smile every time you walk or drive by. --Jeff Sherman
Woflgangsvault.com -- The largest collection of live concert recordings and music memorabilia is housed in San Francisco and the Web site contains a strong collection of concerts that can be streamed for free (registration necessary), as well as poster art, vintage t-shirts, rock photography and other artifacts from the collection of the late Bill Graham and others. You're bound to find something you like here. --Drew Olson
"Love is a Mix Tape" by Rob Sheffield -- This best-selling book is the memoir of contributing Rolling Stone editor, Rob Sheffield. It chronicles Sheffield's life during the ‘90s, when he was married to his dream girl and best friend, Renee, who died unexpectedly in the sixth year of their marriage. It's funny, heartbreaking, thoughtful and an absolute must-read for anyone with an interest in music from the ‘80s and ‘90s. (As well as anyone who ever made or received a cassette mix tape back in the day.) Sheffield's commentary on life in America during the ‘90s is extraordinarily poignant, and made me realize -- for the first time -- what a great time in history it was. Plus, the end of this book features a surprising Milwaukee connection. --Molly Snyder Edler
Twix PB -- The standard-issue Twix bar is might fine, with the caramel and cookie crunch, but the Twix PB takes it to a new level. There is peanut butter, of course, and the base cookie is chocolate and not a sugar cookie. It's sublime. --D.O.
Butterkase cheese -- With 50 percent fat content, it's not exactly a low-fat option, but German and / or Austrian Butterkase cheese is oh so good. I get it at the Milwaukee Public Market's West Allis Cheese & Sausage Shoppe, but it's available in most high-end grocers. As the name tells us, it has a buttery taste and color. Great for grilled cheese or as a side with beer. Then again, what isn't good with beer!? --J.S.
Andy Gray on ESPN's coverage of "Euro ‘08" -- Diehard fans worried that the Worldwide Leader in Sports would butcher coverage of the soccer tournament that is captivating the rest of the world can rest easy. Andy Gray is fantastic. If his voice sounds familiar, you may have heard it on a video game. --D.O.
"Woody Guthrie: A Life" -- You may not like Joe Klein's takes as a talking head on the political pundit shows, but this work -- a thoroughly researched and detailed account of one of the more interesting musical figures of our time -- is one of the better biographies you'll find. Give it a look. Reading it again makes me want to pick up Joe Nick Patoski's new book, "Willie Nelson: An Epic Life" to see how it stacks up. --D.O.
Bud Light's "Jackie Moon" commercial -- It pains me a bit to recommend a Bud Light commercial, but hats of to the Budweiser Media folks for their hilarious "Semi-Pro" spot featuring Will Ferrell as Jackie Moon.
While the spot is not going to convince me to drink the stuff (Miller only for this Milwaukeean), it makes me laugh every time I see it. "Refreshes the palette, and the loins. Bud Light, suck one!" Classic stuff. Watch it below. --J.S.
"The Bob Newhart Show" -- I saw Bob Newhart interviewed during a documentary about Don Rickles and remembered how much I loved his eponymous series. Watch an episode on hulu.com and you'll see how great the writing is. Newhart was a deadpan genius. --D.O.
Dead Confederate -- An up-and-coming Georgia band puts out a killer EP, hits the road and hones its songwriting craft. Could this be the next R.E.M.? Or at least a version of the Drive-By Truckers? What is it about the deep South that makes for such compelling music? Whatever it is, check out "Shadow the Walls" and "The Rat" and see whether you think this band has what it takes. --D.O.
