June marks the official start of summer – from beer gardens to festivals to live music in seemingly every green space in sight to, well, the actual literal starting date of summer. There will certainly be plenty to do – and while cooling off your sunburns or resting off your hangovers on the couch, there will also be plenty to watch thanks to the latest supply of new arrivals over at the Big Red Streaming Monolith.

Yes, while Netflix is losing a lot this month, they're also restocking quite nicely during June – whether you're a horror hound (the "Conjuring" movies), an Oscars obsessive ("1917," "La La Land," "Ali," "Aftersun") or have a taste for a throwback like "The Breakfast Club" or David Lynch's "Dune." Hot off winning the Cannes Film Festival's top prize, Netflix subscribers can check out director Sean Baker's breakthrough film "Tangerine" starting next month. Or they could flirt with popular recent rom-coms both intentionally hilarious ("Crazy Rich Asians") and unintentionally so ("50 Shades of Grey"). Plus, in the hopes of finding the next "Suits" from the TV archives, the Big Red Streaming Monolith is suiting up with the modern classic sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" along with with the serial killer series "Dexter" and the CBS mainstay "NCIS."

That's all not even including the Netflix Originals amongst the bunch, ranging from another bunch of "Bridgerton" to a thriller about a giant shark swimming around Paris. And then there's "Hit Man," a dark comedy from Richard Linklater starring burgeoning superstar Glen Powell of "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Anyone But You" fame about a guy posing as a killer. Every critic who saw this on the festival circuit said it was a massive crowd-pleaser that played like gangbusters for an audience ... so of course it ended up on a streaming service, doomed to be watched alone on a couch with a maximum crowd of two. I love this industry.

Enough of my grumbles, though, and on with a list of new Netflix additions that's otherwise pretty hard to grumble about.

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
