New year. New me. (Well, that's a lie; my resolutions are lasting eight hours at best.) And, most importantly, new movies and TV shows to binge on the couch as the weather turns terrible.
Indeed, Netflix announced all of the new stuff headed to the service at the start of 2022 – and despite the still-crowded world of streaming (good for you, Paramount+; can't say I predicted you making it this far! Gold star!) and studios hurriedly grabbing their content back, January's lineup is actually quite impressive.
There's a bunch of blockbusters ("300," "Superman Returns," most of the "Terminator" and "TMNT" films) to explode the new sound system you got for Christmas, as well as a collection of cackle-worthy comedies ("I Love You, Man," "The Wedding Singer"). Plus, several horror movies – like "Paranormal Activity," "I Know What You Did Last Summer" – are dropping in to frighten you with something beyond the plunging temperatures outside. As a bonus, for those wanting to pay homage to the late great queen of horny horror Anne Rice, Netflix will also sink its teeth into the '90s gothic classsic "Interview with the Vampire."
For something more kid-friendly, family favorites like "Free Willy," "Gremlins," "Kung Fu Panda" and "The NeverEnding Story" will zip their way onto the streaming service as well in January. And if you're tired of catching up with the year's latest awards nominees, why not dip back into the archives and watch some old Oscar golden boys including "Braveheart," "Hell or High Water," "True Grit," "The Town," "Taxi Driver," "Stand By Me" and "Phantom Thread." It's such a loaded list, it has both "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" AND "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!" So now you can easily watch the original and then ... skip the remake and just watch the original again!
We haven't even gotten to the Netflix originals ... mainly because there aren't really any eye-catching Netflix originals this month. January must be "Welcome to Dumpsville" for streaming services as much as it is for movie studios because, besides some more "Ozark," it's mostly stuff like yet another season of "Too Hot to Handle," a parody of "The Woman in the Window" (relevant ... ?) and a Kevin James movie about New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton. Oh, and a show dedicated the TikTok creator hive Hype House, in case you want to watch something that will make you feel old and want to die (but at least while knowing the latest dance movies).
Annyways, with no further ado, here's the full list of new releases ringing in the new year on Netflix.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
