For the website that single-handedly helped kill rental stores, Netflix is sure renting and returning a lot of movies at a record clip.
The big red streaming behemoth today announced what movies and television shows will leave next month – a list that'll look very similar to the new releases of the past few months unfortunately. For instance, almost half of the films leaving Netflix on April 1 – the biggest day of each month for both new releases and departures – were added to the streaming service in just the first few months of 2018. Almost all of them were added within the past year.
This is a part of the new Netflix norm: There won't be many new non-originals coming, and what few that do arrive won't be around long.
Unfortunately, news doesn't get better as the month goes along as hits like Christopher Nolan's dynamite magician duel "The Prestige," the charming lo-fi musical "Begin Again" and the outstanding Banksy documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop" will all be sacrificed – and they're unlikely to rise again in fulfillment of the scriptures. At least on Netflix. Maybe on Hulu.
