Milwaukee might soon be known as Mural City due to the myriad magnificent works of public art here.
The latest mural installation started today, Aug. 5, on the exterior walls of the Crossroads Collective at the intersections of North Avenue, Farwell Avenue and East Ivanhoe Place. This is the eighth mural that's affiliated with Wallpapered City’s NoMAD (North Avenue Mural Arts District) program.
Spanish artist Koctel is the creator of the mural. Born in Granada and raised in Andalusia, Spain, Koctel started painting graffiti at 14 and evolved his artistic style from there.
Koctel grew up around many orange groves and draws much of his artistic inspiration from colorful fruits and sweets. His art also reflects Chinese cultural elements that he absorbed while living in China.
The artist's public art installations can be found around the world including the U.K., Italy, Germany, Austria, Mexico, China, the United States and more.
Koctel will finish the mural in about two weeks and the public is encouraged to stop by to observe his work in progress.
