If you ask me, there’s not nearly enough pie in this town.
When I say that, I give thanks for spots like Honeypie Cafe and those utterly irresistible Hatched hand pies (get yours at Pilcrow Coffee or Birch + Butcher).
You can add to that list the relatively new Full of Beans Cafe, just down the street from Purple Door Ice Cream at 184 S. 2nd St.
After all, they’ve got the most adorable (and delicious) homemade mini pies (available in cherry or apple) you’ve ever seen for just $3.95 (add a scoop of Purple Door ice cream for $1.75). And … I wouldn’t be writing about them if they weren’t delicious.
The cherry pie has an ultra-flaky crust that might just remind you of the pies your grandmother used to make (provided your grandmother was a fantastic baker, that is). Meanwhile, the cherry filling is delicately sweet with a pleasant hint of almond.
Its small size means there’s a nice balance of crust to filling. Since the pies are made in-house on a regular basis, you might just get lucky (as I did) and nab one while they’re still warm.
Full of Beans is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
