For the second year running, Milwaukee Halal Restaurant Week is back. The event, which features and celebrates halal offerings, will take place from July 7-16 at participating restaurants across the city.
Similar to the word “kosher” as it applies to Judaism, halal is a reference to foods allowable for consumption under Islamic law. This includes halal meats that have been processed humanely in accordance with Muslim guidelines (beef, lamb, chicken, fish, venison and poultry).
The event is the first of its kind in the Milwaukee area, allowing Muslims who adhere to a halal diet (as well as other supportive diners) the opportunity to dine at some of Milwaukee’s best restaurants. The event is meant to bring the community together through food.
It also aims to diversify the halal offerings in Milwaukee by encouraging restaurants to try the halal offerings out for Halal Restaurant Week and potentially consider keeping them on the menu.
During Halal Restaurant Week, restaurants agree to feature halal offerings on their restaurant menus. Diners are invited to support their efforts by visiting and trying out their choice of dishes. Guests can also inquire about Halal Restaurant Week specials when they visit.
