"The Snowy Day." "Green Eggs & Ham." "Don’t Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus." These are just a few of my favorite kids’ books – as well as my kids' favorite reads.
What are yours?
This is a question worth pondering because OnMilwaukee partnered with Next Door Foundation to create a holiday initiative called “Merry Bookmas.” And we need your help sharing your most beloved reads.
The goal is simple: get 500 of our favorite board, picture and early education books into the hands of local children ages 1 to 5 years old. Whether you donate one book or a small library's worth, you're giving the gift of literacy, imagination and representation.
According to Next Door, research shows that the number of books available to a child is linked to their long-term success in school. Since the program started in 1990, Next Door’s Books for Kids program has distributed more than 1 million books to kids across Milwaukee.
Donating to “Merry Bookmas” is as easy as A, B or C:
A. Shop their Amazon Wish List and books will get sent directly to Next Door. Books range in price starting at just $4.
B. Purchase your favorite children’s book and either mail it OR drop off: 2545 N. 29th Street, Milwaukee, Wis. 53210
C. Donate money here so Next Door can purchase books
For more than 50 years, Next Door Milwaukee has provided early education, programs and resources to Milwaukee kids and their families. Currently, the organization serves more then 1,400 children. But to do this, they need books.
So we got this, right Milwaukee? Dr. Seuss knows we got this.
"Merry Bookmas" runs through January 8, 2023. Go HERE to donate.
